Horticulture Block

On the grounds of Ōtaki College is a two hectare block which has been designated as a Horticultural Block.
The students have the opportunity of an unique learning experience. The space allows students to explore many natural science concepts, hands-on problem solving and to grow their own food. The area has had a community garden established, with the aim of involving families in the school. Set amongst the fruit trees is a pergola, built by students and a pizza oven for them to cook and sample their produce. The school's PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) values are represented beautifully in the Horticultural Science subject. Respect for the environment, pride in the college, active learning and responsibility for caring for plants.
