ŌC Students Attend American Commemoration Day

posted 26 May 2015, 20:53 by OC Web   [ updated 26 May 2015, 20:54 ]
The American Commemoration day is like our ANZAC day. The Kāpiti Coast and particularly Queen Elizabeth Park was home for a huge group of Marines during WW2. Thirteen died off the coast during a training session. Clare and Isobel read their names out during the Service. The other students handed the wreaths to the dignitaries.

Students attending were: Clare McInerney-Heather, Isobel Cudby, Jess McArley, Maddie McAlpine, Ryan Webber and Thomas Osborne.  Click for more photos.

(An interesting local fact relating to the marines was that most of the timber used for housing the Americans came from Ōtaki Forks)
