On August 10th, the Level 3 Outdoor Education students set off on a three-day alpine trip on Whakapapa at Mt Ruapehu. The trip encompasses alpine skills, environmental care and geology. Students were tasked with setting up two different campsites and managing themselves in the tough alpine environment. The group had three days of sunshine but also experienced the challenges of an alpine environment. They slept out in temperatures as low as -26 (with windchill) being battered by 75 km southerly winds. However, the trip was completed and lots learned with this trip going down as one of the best ever.
