"Level 2 Outdoor Education students were at Whakapapa on Mt Ruapehu, based at the Manawatu Ski Lodge. From here we did day trips with each student sleeping one the night in a snow cave. Students learnt how to construct the snow shelter as well as basic ice axe and crampons skills. Students also learnt about the volcanic history of the area and about the gifting to the people of New Zealand of Tongariro National Park by Ngati Tu Wharetoa."
