Evolocity

The Evolocity Competition is a nationwide competition where students design and build an electric vehicle, based on a standard electric motor and batteries. They then race these vehicles in a number of different events in a regional competition. The top performing teams in their regions are then invited to attend the national competition held in Christchurch.

The competition utilises many of the practical and academic skills taught in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. Students learn to meet deadlines and manage a project, work as a team, make models, test and trial ideas, manage safety when developing a vehicle and develop skills and passion in the engineering and technology areas. Students also gain considerable skill at driving or riding an electric vehicle through plenty of training.
